POINT OF INTEREST

Horseshoe Bay

Southampton

One of the few pink sand beaches in the world, Horseshoe Bay in Bermuda is loved by locals and tourists alike for its beauty, soft sand, and calm water. A trip to the island of Bermuda is not complete without a stroll along the water’s edge at this world-class stretch of sand.

Bermuda is in the Atlantic Ocean, over a thousand miles away from the nearest Caribbean island, but for all its remoteness it has a Caribbean-style feel, with clear turquoise water and a relaxed way of life. Horseshoe Bay is considered by many to be one of the best beaches in the region and has plenty of amenities, including a beach cafe and lifeguards on duty. Guided tours of Bermuda’s top attractions often stop at Horseshoe Bay.

  • There are shower/changing facilities at the beach.

  • Visitors can snorkel from the beach—the best area is toward the rocks just offshore.

  • The beach has a cafe/restaurant.

  • Lifeguards patrol during the summer, from 10am to 6pm from May 1 to October 31.

Horseshoe Bay is located near Southampton on the island of Bermuda. Flights arrive into Bermuda International from a number of major cities, including Washington DC, Atlanta, New York, Miami, Toronto, and London. Many people choose to rent a vehicle while on the island (just remember to drive on the left side of the street), or take part in guided tours that include transportation.

High season in Bermuda is May to October, when the islands are busy with visitors and cruise ship calls. The temperature hovers around 80°F (30°C) during the summer, and storms are possible as the islands are on the northern edge of the hurricane belt. In spring, the beaches are quieter and the days still warm—around 70°F (22°C), although some find the water is a little cold for swimming.

With miles and miles of wide blue ocean all around you in Bermuda, there are few places with better options for a sailing adventure. Whether you opt for a sunset cruise, a kayak excursion, or a day sail on a catamaran, a boat tour will give you a new perspective on the islands.
