About 31 miles (50 kilometers) from Pretoria and 53 miles (85 kilometers) from Johannesburg, Hartbeespoort is easiest to reach by car. From Johannesburg, take the R512; from Pretoria, the R514.
The best time to visit Hartbeespoort Dam is during the summer (December through April), when the weather is warm. For fewer crowds, avoid holidays and weekends.
