Hacienda Coloma
Avenida las Palmas Via Tibacuy, Fusagasugá, Cundinamarca
Surrounded by leafy tropical trees in the verdant Colombian countryside, south of Bogotá, Hacienda Coloma is an elegant coffee estate offering tastings and tours meant to educate you about how coffee is made. It's a must for coffee lovers, gardening fans, and anyone who just wants to get away from the city for a bit of quiet.
The basics
Hacienda Coloma offers tours with insight into the country’s coffee industry and a look at the cultivation and production process. A rum tour and lunch by reservation are also available. If you're booking through an outside tour, it will likely include private, round-trip transportation from hotels, guided coffee tastings, and sometimes lunch. Some tours also visit the nearby town of Fusagasuga. There's a bed and breakfast at Hacienda Coloma if you want to spend the night.
Things to know before you go
Hacienda Coloma is an attraction for fans of coffee or those interested in gardening or architecture.
Wear comfortable shoes for exploring the grounds, and note that tours may not be suitable for those who use wheelchairs or strollers.
You can pick up coffee and souvenirs at the hacienda’s gift shop.
How to get there
Hacienda Coloma is located southwest of Bogotá. Getting there can take up to three hours by car, depending on traffic and where in the city you're coming from. The easiest way to get there is by joining a guided tour with round-trip transportation from your hotel.
When to get there
Hacienda Coloma is open to guests every day of the week until mid-afternoon, except on select holidays. It’s a year-round attraction, but if you're making a day of it, you might want to avoid the rainy seasons, which run from April–May and October–November, when afternoon showers are common. Reservations are available on its website.
Jardín: the garden of Colombia
Hacienda Coloma is a great spot for coffee-themed day trips from the Colombian capital. However, travelers staying in Medellin will find it easier to get to Jardín. This lush town is known for its coffee farms, many open to visitors who want to learn about coffee production and sample some of the freshest coffee possible.
