Founded in 2018, Glacier 45 Distillery produces all-natural vodkas in a range of flavors—think blood orange, hot cinnamon, cucumber, huckleberry, and more—plus gin and bourbon whiskey. You can try it for yourself at its tasting room in downtown Baker City, Oregon.
Anyone 21 and over is welcome to stop by Glacier 45’s tasting room and shop, where you can sample up to five different products free of charge. Self-guided food-and-drink tasting tours of Baker City include a visit to the distillery, and are a great way to familiarize yourself with the area’s makers and producers.
Glacier 45 Distillery is a must-visit for fans of independent spirits (of the alcoholic variety). All vodkas and gins are made from non-GMO and kosher ingredients and are gluten free. You must be 21 years old, with a valid ID, to sample or buy alcoholic beverages.
Glacier 45 Distillery's shop is situated in the heart of Baker City in northeastern Oregon. It's around a 5-hour drive from Portland, or two hours by car from Boise. You really need your own vehicle to get to this part of the state, but you'll find that the area is pretty walkable once you reach downtown Baker City.
The distillery shop is open from Monday to Saturday, although Saturday opening hours are typically a little shorter—check ahead of your visit for current times. While the distillery is worth visiting no matter when you come to Baker City, you’ll find the most pleasant weather in this part of the state during the summertime. Note that winters can get quite cold, with temperatures sometimes dipping below freezing.
Just a couple of stores down from Glacier 45 Distillery sits Copper Belt Winery’s tasting room, which serves a variety of wines made from grapes grown in high-elevation areas of Eastern Oregon, from Pinot Noir to Tempranillo. Copper Belt shares a space with The Cheese Fairy, which sells cheeses from around the world.
