Factors Walk

Factors Walk, Savannah, Georgia

This cobbled, riverfront section of the Savannah Historic District is a row of red-brick buildings connected to the city’s cotton-trading past. The upper level of Factors Walk is home to shops, restaurants, and hotels, while the lower level offers a glimpse into Savannah’s reputation for spooky after-dark locales.

Factors Walk includes several buildings, most famously the Old Savannah Cotton Exchange, which isn't open to visitors regularly, but is nice to admire from the outside. However, it's best known for its lower level—join a local walking tour to learn more about its rich history. The area is also home to several beautiful photo backdrops, including a set of steep stone stairs. Many Savannah tours, including history sightseeing tours and Civil War-focused tours, include a stroll through Factors Walk.

  • Comfortable, flat shoes are essential for exploring Factors Walk, as cobbled stones are uneven and stairs can be challenging; always watch where you are walking.

  • As well as history buffs, this part of the Savannah riverfront draws photography enthusiasts with its beautiful stonework and mysterious tunnels.

  • This section of the Savannah Historic District poses many challenges for strollers and wheelchairs.

  • It’s best to explore Factors Walk during the daylight hours.

Factors Walk is on River Street along the riverfront in the Savannah Historic District. It’s best reached on foot; parking is very limited in this historic area (though the Bryan Street parking garage offers a nearby parking option). Local bus services stop nearby at Bryan Street and Bull Street. Be prepared to climb stairs and walk over cobbles during a visit to Factors Walk.

Explore the nooks and crannies of Factors Walk by day when the lower level is well-lit and there are people out exploring the riverfront. Some people visit with a guide leading a history-themed walking tour, while others explore independently and relax over breakfast or lunch at one of the many cafés. As for the time of year, spring and fall are beautiful in Savannah; summer can be oppressively hot.

In addition to exploring the exterior of historic buildings, one of the main draws for a visit to Factors Walk is Graveface Museum. This unique attraction is a match for anyone who loves oddities, including exhibitions on the occult, true crime, cults, and more. There’s also a horror-themed pinball and arcade room included with museum admission.
