Dubrovnik Bell Tower

Located at the eastern end of the central thoroughfare of Dubrovnik, the Bell Tower provides a lovely part of the city’s soundtrack. The tower was damaged during an earthquake in the 17th century and after many years of disrepair, it was finally restored in the 1920s. This central landmark is a popular stop during walking tours of Dubrovnik’s Old Town.

Located in the heart of Dubrovnik, the Bell Tower is not open to the public but it can be seen from Luza Square and beyond. The compact Old Town of Dubrovnik is pedestrianized, so the landmark can only be reached on foot.

The summer season is the most popular time of year to visit Dubrovnik, especially in July and August. Avoid the crowds during these months by visiting the Bell Tower early in the morning or after sunset. The shoulder season months in spring and summer offer milder temperatures and the absence of peak summer crowds.

While the tower’s bell is struck every hour by two bronze figures, the best time of day to hear the antique chimes may be at noon, when the most elaborate music can be heard. Several cafes with large umbrellas for shade are located near the Bell Tower where you can set up shop to listen to the chimes.
