For the best—and certainly the most far-reaching—view in Albany, head to the Corning Tower Observation Deck. Located on the 42nd floor of the Corning Tower, the free observation deck offers sweeping views over Albany, Rensselaer, the Hudson River Valley, and the Adirondacks, Catskills, and Berkshires.
Head to Empire State Plaza and go inside the 44-story Corning Tower (also known as the Erastus Corning II Tower), the tallest building in New York outside of New York City, and take the high-speed elevator up to the 42nd floor to access the observation deck. Walk around the deck to enjoy expansive views through floor-to-ceiling windows in three directions across Albany and the surrounding areas. There are signs marking buildings and landmarks while viewfinders offer closer views.

The Observation Deck is located on the 42nd floor of Corning Tower, which is a part of Empire State Plaza in downtown Albany. If driving from north or south, take the I-87 to 787; from east or west, take the 1-90 to 787. The Empire State Plaza exit ramp leads to a paid underground parking lot. Several buses stop nearby and free bike racks can be found around Empire State Plaza.
The Corning Tower Observation Deck is open from 10am to 4pm Monday through Friday, and is closed on weekends and public holidays. Aim for a clear day for the best views and combine your visit with other attractions around Empire State Plaza or downtown Albany.
