Cockington Green Gardens
11 Gold Creek Road, Nicholls, Canberra, Australia Capital Authority, 2913
Cockington Green Gardens offers visitors a trip around the world without leaving Canberra. The outdoor exhibit features meticulously crafted miniature buildings representing numerous landmarks, from Scotland’s Braemer Castle to Peru’s Machu Picchu. It’s a great option for traveling families who will be captivated by the enchanting world.
The basics
The main displays at Cockington Green Gardens are spread over two sections: the Original Display area and the International Display area. The Original Display area, which is inspired by a quaint English village, winds its way through superbly manicured gardens and depicts such English scenes as a cricket match and mini Stonehenge. The International Display depicts such scenes as a tango in Buenos Aires’ La Boca district and Mexico’s Tenochtitlan Aztec temple. You’ll also find miniature train displays and dollhouses in the parks.

How to get there
Cockington Green Gardens is around 10 miles (16 kilometers) north of Canberra’s city center. If you don’t have your own transport, you can catch bus route number 8 from the bus interchange at the Belconnen Mall; get off at William Slim Drive, then walk 30 minutes.
When to get there
The gardens are open every day with the exception of December 25 and 26. The last entry is 45 minutes before close. Occasionally, poor weather will force the gardens to close, so it’s a good idea to check ahead of time.
The Miniature Train
One of the most popular attractions at Cockington Green Gardens is the miniature steam train ride. A ride around the gardens offers an elevated perspective on the displays. The train can seat up to twenty people at a time, with each ride consisting of two laps around the track. An additional fee applies.
