Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum

4610 Carey Ave., Cheyenne, Wyoming

Created to celebrate the history of its namesake festival, the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum keeps the spirit of the annual event alive year-round. The museum traces the origins of the world’s largest outdoor rodeo, alongside an impressive collection of carriages, folk art, clothing, artifacts, and rodeo paraphernalia.

Tour the exhibits at Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum to get an in-depth look at rodeo culture and heritage. If you are attending Cheyenne Frontier Days in July, make a point to stop at the museum for historical context. If you visit any other time of year, you can join a workshop or lecture in addition to exploring the museum exhibits.

  • The Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum is a must-see for Western culture and rodeo enthusiasts.

  • You can purchase souvenirs, gifts, books, and more in the museum’s shop.

  • The museum is wheelchair and stroller accessible.

  • The museum is free for children under 6 and museum members.

The museum is located in the northeast corner of Frontier Park. From downtown Cheyenne, take Carey Avenue and the museum will be on your left. During Cheyenne Frontier Days, you can take a bus or utilize the park-and-ride service to reach the museum.

The museum is open year-round from 9am to 5pm daily, and from 8am to 7pm for Cheyenne Frontier Days. For the full experience, visit during the festival, which is held the last full week of July. To focus on the museum and skip the crowds, visit in winter. See the museum’s online event schedule to plan ahead.

Held every July, the festival is a 9-day romp full of rodeo events, country music concerts, parades, and parties. Founded in 1897, the event mixes Old West culture with modern-day country spirit, and it draws in everyone from old-time cowboys and rodeo stars to young country music fans.
