POINT OF INTEREST

Cameron Park

2601 N University Parks Dr., Waco, Texas

Cameron Park is one of the largest urban parks in Texas and one of the most popular outdoor spaces in Waco. The park was dedicated to its donor and benefactor, William Cameron, in 1910 and grew to its current size not long before its centennial. Today, it hosts a variety of community events throughout the year.

Cameron Park offers all-season exploration across its 26-mile (42-kilometer) multiuse trail system. Hiking, cycling, and horseback riding are all permitted, and you can download trail directions for various workout runs. The award-winning Cameron Park Zoo is accessible by foot from Cameron Park and requires paid admission. Many of the park’s restrooms are near popular sites such as Lovers Leap and Mouth of the Bosque. There are no boat launch ramps at this riverside park.

  • The disc golf course is free, but you must bring your own frisbee or disc golf.

  • Pets, including horses, are permitted; pets must be leashed, and horses can only use designated trails.

  • The Pecan Bottoms Park Splashpad closes between late autumn and early spring.

Cameron Park is located on the western side of the Brazos River where it meets the Bosque River. There are four parking lots: three on the east side and one near the community college. From downtown, you can follow Fourth Street directly into Cameron Park; taxis and rideshares are also available. You can also walk or cycle the Waco Riverwalk from Indian Spring Park downtown to Cameron Park.

Cameron Park is open from dawn to midnight daily. Although the park does have visitors throughout the day, its busiest times are typically on warm weather weekends and when community events happen. You can hike or bike the trails whenever you wish, but know that many pathways are not lit by artificial light.

The City of Waco Brazos Park East is located directly across from Cameron Park and accessible via the Herring Avenue Bridge. Though smaller, this park offers excellent views of Cameron Park. It also has facilities for launching boats and renting kayaks or canoes so you can explore the riverside.
