Brockton Point
Stanley Park Road, Vancouver, BC
A century-old lighthouse and a collection of First Nations totem poles—one of Vancouver’s most-visited attractions—sit on this exposed knob of land at the eastern tip of Stanley Park. The waterfront lookout, set between the Burrard Inlet and Coal Harbour, offers views of North Vancouver and the North Shore Mountains.
The ideal way to explore Brockton Point—and the Stanley Park area—is on foot or by bike. Most park sightseeing tours make a stop at Brockton Point’s First Nations totem poles. The park is the traditional territory of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. The lighthouse at Brockton Point is not open to the public, but you can still appreciate the location's pretty panoramas of the Lions Gate Bridge, downtown skyline, and North Shore.
Bring your camera; the views from Brockton Point are a must-capture.
There are public restrooms at Brockton Point.
The seawall, which tracks around the perimeter of Brockton Point, is wheelchair-accessible.
Brockton Point is situated at the easternmost edge of Stanley Park, near Vancouver’s West End neighborhood. Enter the park at the Georgia Street entrance; Brockton Point is about a 30-minute walk east from there via the seawall path. TransLink bus route No. 19 travels through downtown Vancouver and stops at Stanley Park Loop near the aquarium.
Brockton Point’s totem poles are among the most-visited sites in Vancouver; if you’re going in summer, come early in the day or later in the afternoon to avoid the crowds. The park is open year-round from 6am to 10pm.
There are several other attractions dotted around the Brockton Point peninsula. Three of them are on its southern shoreline: Hallelujah Point, a grassy viewpoint overlooking downtown Vancouver; a statue of Harry Jerome, a Canadian track and field runner; and the 9 O’Clock Gun, an old naval cannon that fires at 9pm every night. The cannon’s loud boom can be heard far beyond the downtown area.
