Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor Center is at 195 Hemphill Knob Rd. (Milepost 384), about 8 mi. e. of downtown Asheville, N.C. Exhibits focus on the cultural heritage and recreational opportunities of western North Carolina and along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The I-Wall, a 22-foot interactive map of the entire parkway, provides multimedia information about points of interest. “The Blue Ridge Parkway—America's Favorite Journey,” a 24-minute film that utilizes panoramic aerial photography and surround sound to give an overall picture of the parkway's construction and the natural history of the Blue Ridge Mountains, is shown in the center's theater. You can hike, too; a 1.2-mile loop trail that starts at the parking lot joins the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
