40 North Shore Road, Flatts Village, BMU

For a look at both the undersea and landlocked life of the Bermuda island archipelago, head to the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum & Zoo. From pink flamingos to sharks and even a living coral reef, there’s plenty to entertain all ages here.

Run by the Bermuda Zoological Society, BAMZ, as the attraction is known, is one of the oldest aquariums in the world, founded in 1926. You can find more than 200 different species of fish and marine life here, ranging from small invertebrates to harbor seals and marine turtles. The aquarium is a popular stop for guided tours taking in the islands’ top sites.

The zoo exhibit is home to approximately 300 birds, reptiles, and mammals native to oceanic islands, including the popular flamingos, tamarin monkeys, and lemurs. The animals are housed in natural-style exhibits that you can walk around. There’s also a small natural history museum on-site that explores the archipelago’s geology and the human impact on the environment.

  • Entry to BAMZ is by paid ticket.

  • Discounts are available for seniors, students, and children under 12.

  • Children under 5 enter free.

  • Audio guides provide extra information about each exhibit.

  • The aquarium holds daily talks and interactive feeding displays at the seal and turtle exhibits.

  • If you’re planning to go snorkeling or diving, you can visit the aquarium first to get an idea of the marine life you will see underwater.

BAMZ is located in Flatts Village in the center of the island, at 40 North Shore Road. Visitors can choose to can drive (there’s a parking lot across the street) or visit as part of a guided island tour. Public buses run to the aquarium from the towns of St. George's and Hamilton.

The Bermuda Aquarium, Museum & Zoo is open every day except Christmas Day. Opening hours are 9am–5pm, last entry is at 4pm. The facility can get very busy during the summer months.

A pink sand beach with picture-perfect looks and calm waters ideal for swimming and snorkeling, Horseshoe Bay is one of the most popular beaches in Bermuda, and a must-visit spot for many tourists. There are facilities on-site, including changing rooms, showers, and a cafe/restaurant, and lifeguards patrol the beach in the summer months.
