Bellamy Mansion Museum

503 Market St, Wilmington, North Carolina

Completed in 1861, Bellamy Mansion Museum is one of North Carolina’s best examples of antebellum architecture. The museum includes a main house that spans 10,000 square feet (929 square meters), a carriage house, a two-story slave quarters, and gardens, along with rotating exhibits and special events throughout the year.

You can explore the Bellamy Mansion Museum on a self-guided audio tour, which begins with a video presentation. Premium guided tours are also available, which are led by a guide and last around 90 minutes. See all 22 rooms in the main house, get a closer look at the slave quarters, and walk through the recreated gardens. The museum also hosts rotating exhibits on Civil War history, architecture, restoration, and design, as well as educational and cultural programming. Certain Wilmington tours also pass by the Bellamy Mansion Museum, including walking history and architecture tours, walking wine and history tours, and e-bike history and brewery tours.

  • There’s a fee to access the museum, which includes an English audio guided tour using a smartphone or a paper guide in different languages.

  • Guided tours are available for an additional fee, and must be purchased in person.

  • The Carriage House Visitor Center is fully accessible and has accessible restrooms, while the mansion and slave quarters can only be accessed by stairs. A 30-minute video tour of the mansion is available for visitors with limited mobility.

Bellamy Mansion Museum is located at 503 Market Street, between N 6th and N 7th streets, in the Wilmington National Register Historic District and on the outskirts of downtown. Several buses stop nearby, including the 108, 201, 202, 205, and 210. A free parking lot is available on the Market Street side of the mansion.

Bellamy Mansion Museum is open for self-guided tours on Monday through Sunday, from 10am to 4pm. Guided tours, lasting around 90 minutes, are available at 10am, 12pm, and 2pm, and are subject to availability. The museum hosts special events throughout the year, including lectures, special exhibits, family fun days, summer jazz concerts, and festive nights of lights around the Christmas holidays.

Wilmington’s National Register Historic District spans 230 blocks and contains nearly 700 homes and buildings. In addition to the Bellamy Mansion Museum, other notable sites include the Burgwin-Wright House, with Georgian architecture and Colonial style gardens, and the Latimer House Museum, which offers a glimpse into how the upper class lived during the Victorian era in Wilmington.
