Bamboo Hanging Bridge Sevilla
Sevilla, Bohol
Variously known as the Tigbao Hanging Bridge, Sipatan Twin Hanging Bridge, and Bamboo Hanging Bridge Sevilla, this pair of bamboo footbridges hang 82 feet (25 meters) above Bohol’s Loboc River. Steel cables have replaced the original rope, but the creaking, swaying, and wobbling as you cross is still unnerving.
The basics
Walking the Tigbao Hanging Bridge after rain can be an experience, as the Loboc River foams brown far below and feet glissade on slippery bamboo. However, the river is more photogenic in the dry season (Jan.–May), when the water is clearer. There’s not much to see on either side of the bridge, apart from souvenir stalls, so most travelers take a photo on the way to see tarsiers or take a Loboc River cruise.
Things to know before you go
- There’s a small charge to cross (or take photos on) the bridges, payable in cash on arrival.
- Open railings on either side mean crossing the bridges with small children can be frightening.
- The Tigbao Hanging Bridge is not wheelchair-accessible.
How to get there
The Tigbao Hanging Bridge crosses the Loboc River in the Sevilla municipality, about a 21-mile (33-kilometer) drive east of Tagbilaran City Port. The easiest way to get there is to join a tour or book a private driver.
When to get there
The bamboo hanging bridges are open throughout the daylight hours. Visit early in the day for the best chance of an uncrowded shot, and avoid weekends and local public holidays
Things to do on the Loboc River
A visit to the Loboc River is a must on any Bohol trip. The signature experience is a Loboc River lunch cruise, with a buffet aboard a floating restaurant—or try a stand-up paddleboard adventure to get closer to nature. Thrill-seekers gravitate to the Loboc River Ecotourism Adventure Park, where you can race across the river on a zipline. Most firefly-watching trips focus on the Abatan River, not the Loboc River.
