Art Gallery of Western Australia
Perth Cultural Center, Perth, Western Australia
Home to more than 17,000 works from the State Art Collection, the Art Gallery of Western Australia features local and international artists from the 1800s to the present. Part of the Perth Cultural Centre, the gallery is one of the best places to see art in the city.
Located between the central business district (CBD) and Northbridge, the gallery—and the rest of the Perth Cultural Centre—is easy to visit during a day of sightseeing, whether you’re on your own or exploring the city on a guided tour. It’s a stop on most hop-on hop-off bus tours, providing a convenient way to get there from other local attractions.
*The Art Gallery of Western Australia is free to enter; donations are encouraged, and some special events and exhibits require a fee. *Non-flash photography is allowed; selfie sticks are discouraged. *Large backpacks and bags must be checked at the free coat room. *Wheelchairs and an electric buggy are available for use for those with disabilities.
The gallery sits on Roe Street between Beaufort and William streets, just across Roe from the Perth city train station. It can also be reached via the Blue CAT, a free bus service in the city center.
The gallery is open every day except Tuesday from late morning to early evening. Free guided tours are available daily.
In addition to the Art Gallery of Western Australia, the Perth Cultural Centre is home to some of the state’s most significant educational and cultural venues and is Perth’s main destination for arts and culture. Attractions include the State Library of Western Australia, the Western Australian Museum, the State Theatre Centre of Western Australia, Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts, and the Blue Room Theatre. Between these venues, you have myriad chances to enjoy live theater, modern art installations, Aboriginal art, European art, film screenings, and other events.
