POINT OF INTEREST

Antalya Bazaar

Balbey, Antalya, Turkey, 07040

Despite the sign over the entrance reading “Old Bazaar,” this attraction feels more like a shopping mall than a historic marketplace. A 1-stop shop for all your souvenir needs—as well as clothes and designer fakes—this largely covered market in the heart of Antalya offers spices, lanterns, coffee pots, shisha pipes, leather goods, Turkish delight, and more.

The basics

One of the many markets and bazaars in Antalya city, Antalya’s Old Bazaar is centrally located and easy to reach, which makes it a popular choice for international visitors. Bargaining is essential as initial prices can be very high, and the quality of goods varies widely, but that’s all part of the fun. Take the time to compare and contrast prices, as many stalls have similar stock.

Things to know before you go

  • The Old Bazaar is an option for travelers who want to practice their haggling skills and stock up on souvenirs.

  • There’s a range of Turkish food options on offer inside the market.

  • Most vendors take cards, but many offer discounts for paying cash.

  • Shops are generally reached by low steps, so the bazaar is not a good choice for travelers who rely on wheelchairs.

How to get there

Antalya’s Old Bazaar lies in the heart of the old town, about a 2-minute stroll north of Antalya Clock Tower (Antalya Saat Kulesi). It’s about a 5-mile (8-kilometer) taxi ride from the bus station, or you can catch the TL94 bus. There are paid parking lots around the old town.

When to get there

The Old Bazaar is open seven days a week, and some stalls trade well into the evening. It’s rarely overly crowded, so visit at a time that works for you. In summer, evenings make a cooler alternative to the heat of the day.

Weekly markets in the Antalya area

Some of the best markets and bazaars in and around Antalya are open only on specific days of the week. Lara Saturday Market (Lara Cumartesi Pazari) is a lively flea market serving a great range of fakes every Saturday. Manavgat Market, which runs on Mondays and Thursdays in the town of Manavgat near Side, is one of the biggest markets in the region, with a vast selection of fake goods and a bustling spice bazaar.
