A small, sandy, sheltered beach in the north of central Agios Nikolaos, Ammoudi Beach offers sunbeds, beach bars, and calm, clear waters. The views across Mirabello Bay are spectacular, while the water conditions are ideal for windsurfing, sea kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and the ever-popular pedalo paddleboats.
Ammoudi Beach is compact. Water sports aficionados can explore the crystal waters of the entire bay, while sun-worshippers can tan to perfection. With a choice of places to eat and drink, including a lively beach bar, some travelers spend the day while others just drop by for a few hours. Despite its clarity, the water gets deep quickly, making Ammoudi Beach a good choice for those who prefer swimming to wading.
Ammoudi Beach is a good option for swimmers, sunbathers, water sports fans, and anyone staying nearby who wants a beach that’s walkable from their hotel.

Ammoudi Beach is not accessible to people in wheelchairs. Travelers who rely on wheelchairs should head to Almyros Beach instead.
Ammoudi Beach sits north of central Agios Nikolaos, about a 15-minute walk north of Voulismeni Lake. There’s free parking beside the beach, although it can fill up quickly in high season.
Like other Agios Nikolaos beaches, Ammoudi Beach can be extremely busy in the July-August high season. If you’re not constrained by school vacations, consider visiting in May, early June, or September for a less crowded experience.
As you’d expect in one of Crete’s favorite resorts, Agios Nikolaos offers the full spectrum of water sports. Scuba diving can be good here, with wrecks, caves, reefs, and walls to explore, while the clear, current-free waters are ideal for beginners. Steady, consistent winds and calm conditions throughout the summer make Ammoudi Beach a popular choice for windsurfing.
