Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site
559 Chebucto St., Baddeck, NS, B0E 1B0
Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site, at the e. end of the village on Rte. 205, features a large collection of artifacts, photographs and personal mementos commemorating the life and work of inventor Alexander Graham Bell. Displays cover his extraordinary range of interests, including aeronautics, agriculture, genetics, marine engineering, medical science and his work with the hearing impaired. The main building's striking architectural style is based on the tetrahedron, the geometric form Bell used in designing his passenger-carrying kites. The landscaped grounds offer a view of the Bell estate across Baddeck Bay on the Bras d'Or Lakes. The site offers special programs, including a white glove tour, kite-building workshops and experiments that Bell and his grandchildren performed with everyday materials as well as presentations about Bell's life and work. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
