The Mob Museum, National Museum of Organized Crime & Law Enforcement

The Mob Museum, National Museum of Organized Crime & Law Enforcement is at 300 Stewart Ave. A variety of immersive exhibits, films and high-tech audio displays are showcased in this restored neoclassical building, the former federal courthouse where some of the Kefauver Committee organized crime hearings took place in the 1950s. The collection, encompassing four floors, explores the history of the Mob in the United States; how this criminal network was brought down by raids, arrests and indictments; the Mob's portrayal in movies, books and pop culture; and what organized crime is doing today and how law enforcement is responding. Visitors get an up-close look at such infamous figures as Al Capone, Bugsy Siegel and John Gotti. Also offered are depictions of men like Eliot Ness, Elmer Irey and Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, who worked tirelessly to bring mobsters and criminals to justice. Interactive exhibits include a crime lab (ages 11 and older), a firearms training simulator (ages 13 and older) and a touch wall where visitors can explore the intricate world of organized crime today. In the basement, the Prohibition era is brought back to life at The Underground, an immersive exhibit featuring a speakeasy, a working distillery and private VIP room located behind a hidden door. After 5 p.m., all guests must be age 21 and older to visit The Underground or participate in the distillery tour. Guided tours are available. Food is available. Time: Allow 1 hour, 30 minutes minimum.
