Museum and Visitor Center at Gettysburg National Military Park

1195 Baltimore Pike, Gettysburg, PA, 17325

Museum and Visitor Center at Gettysburg National Military Park is at 1195 Baltimore Pike, adjacent to the battlefield. The Civil War, particularly the Battle of Gettysburg, is chronicled through archival materials, artifacts, interactive exhibits and a 42-foot high, 377-foot-long cyclorama painting of Pickett's Charge titled "The Battle of Gettysburg," painted 1883-84 by French artist Paul Philippoteaux with the help of 20 other artists. Guests can watch the 22-minute film “A New Birth of Freedom,” featuring narration by actors Morgan Freeman, Marcia Gay Harden and Sam Waterston. The museum's collection includes more than 1 million items, though not all are displayed. Temporary exhibits also are offered. The center serves as the starting point for tours of the battlefield. Both self-guiding and guided tours are available. Arrangements can be made for a personally conducted 2-hour tour with a licensed battlefield guide. Ranger programs are offered April through December. Guided tours are available. Food is available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
