Taft Museum of Art is at 316 Pike St. The 1820 Palladian-style mansion, once the home of art patrons Charles and Anna Taft, features landscape murals by Robert S. Duncanson, a noted 19th-century African American artist. Twelve rooms display impressive visual arts. A permanent collection boasts old masters paintings, more than 200 Chinese porcelains from the Ming and Qing dynasties, medieval and Renaissance European art, Italian Renaissance ceramics and intricate watches crafted by 17th- through 19th-century watchmakers. The Dutch Masters collection includes works by Rembrandt, Pieter de Hooch and Jan Steen. Landscapes by Thomas Gainsborough and portraits by Joshua Reynolds and John Singer Sargent are highlights. Changing exhibitions and special events are presented. A formal garden graces the grounds. Guided tours are available. Food is available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
