National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum is .5 mi. w. of I-35 via I-44 at 1700 N.E. 63rd St. This 32-acre memorial to our Western pioneers has an extensive collection of art, historic artifacts and exhibits about Native American and pioneer life in realistic settings. James Earle Fraser's 18-foot statue “The End of the Trail” and a 33-foot statue of Buffalo Bill are featured. The Rodeo Hall of Fame has legendary performers' portraits, trophies, saddles and memorabilia. A Western art collection features works by Albert Bierstadt, Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell as well as contemporary pieces depicting both the historical and the new West. The Western Performers Gallery shows the idealized West portrayed in motion pictures. Prosperity Junction replicates a circa 1900 western cattle town at dusk with full-size structures, including a saloon, school and church. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
