Tallac Historic Site

Tallac Historic Site is on SR 89 n. of Camp Richardson. These elaborate summer estates were built along the shore of Lake Tahoe by three socially prominent San Francisco families during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The 1921 Baldwin Estate serves as both a house museum and as the site's visitor center. The 1894 Pope Estate, one of the most elaborate homes, can be seen on tours led by costumed docents. The 1924 Heller Estate, also known as Valhalla, functions as an events center. Highlights include an art gallery where resident artists work and a schedule of concerts, plays and classic films presented during the summer. Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted.
