Betsy Ross House

239 Arch St., Philadelphia, PA, 19106

Betsy Ross House, 239 Arch St., was the Colonial home and business of upholsterer Betsy Ross. Although historians debate whether or not she actually stitched the first American flag in 1777, she is popularly credited with having done so. The restored house is furnished to simulate an 18th-century Philadelphia dwelling. Self-guiding tours and audio guides are offered. A Betsy Ross re-enactor greets visitors in her 18th century upholstery shop. Other interactive programming and changing exhibits also are available. Special events such as Betsy Ross' birthday are celebrated throughout the year. Concessions are available daily May-Oct. and Thurs.-Sun., Mar.-Apr. Food is available.
