Inspector Picks: Six Lodgings in Canada and the United States Where Pets are Welcome

Sunwapta Falls Rocky Mountain Lodge

Jasper, Canada
AAA Inspector 450: While there are lots of nature adventures to be had, the fact that that the cabins are just a short walk from a wonderful waterfall is all I need.
Located 45 minutes outside of Jasper on the way to the Columbia Icefields, this popular property features several totem poles scattered throughout the grounds. Guest rooms have a modest design. A highlight are beds which feature triple sheeting and several pillows. The staff can book a variety of tours, from white-water rafting, helicopter excursions, fishing, birding and canoeing tours to horseback riding. Guests also receive complimentary self-driving tour itineraries. There is a great gift shop on site.Book Now

Wickaninnish Inn

Tofino, Canada
AAA Inspector 557: Built on a rocky point, I always wish for stormy weather so I can take in the extravaganza of crashing Pacific Ocean waves on the rocks.
This gorgeous hotel has a wonderful sense of place with most of the beautiful wood, stone and artwork on display being from the area. Even the wine cellar is built on some of the bedrock. Make sure to wander the hotel to find all the exhibits, some which date back to the original discovery of the area. Guest rooms are found in a beachfront building and the main building which is perched on the rocks overlooking the ocean. They are impressive and the same care for detail is found with natural wood furniture, beds with super soft bedding and wonderful limited edition artwork. There are many extras, ranging from locally made soaps, back packs, Hudsons Bay blankets and rain slickers to an honor bar, complimentary snacks and an evening glass of port. Almost all have a soaker tub and fireplace. When the tide is out, expect miles of sandy beach that's perfect for beachcombers. Be sure to ask for a room in the original section that overlooks the rocky shoreline; you'll get a real show when the waves come crashing in during one of Tofino's wild winter storms. The inn has a short closing each year in January.Book Nowx:191882
