Impeccable Décor
The restaurant is near beautiful Madison Square Park and in a historic Art Deco building. The main dining room displays pared-down décor with subtle Art Deco details, such as cylindrical silver hanging lights and the bar’s gold-leaf ceiling. Paned, ceiling-high windows frame the dining room where guests are seated in plush chairs. The room is open but there are corner banquettes if you want to feel cozy. Glass vases filled with long-stemmed florals delicately anchor the space.
Outstanding Service
The service is sophisticated yet relaxed. At the door, you will be greeted warmly by the maître d' and invited to your table. In lieu of a printed menu, the waiter provides an explanation of the tasting menu, providing some choices as well as describing preparation style. The suited staff bustle about refilling glasses, replacing silverware, removing dishes and delivering courses. The servers describe the ingredients and offer some advice on how to best experience the dish.
A Feast for Your Eyes
Chef Humm's contemporary gastronomy features seasonal ingredients prepared to perfection and innovative flavor combinations. Dishes are artfully plated in a minimalistic style, with table preparations reflecting the same attention to detail. It’s customary to be presented with parting gifts, such as a goodie bag or signature tin with your menu selections.
Exceptional Wine List
EMP's wine list is extensive, with eclectic wines by the glass and bottle—from bang-for-your-buck to rare vintages. Don't fret if the countless choices intimidate you. The sommelier is there to guide with knowledge and recommendations. Bubbly is always a crowd-pleaser.
