Washington Island

The island's population is predominantly Scandinavian and constitutes the oldest Icelandic settlement in the United States. It is reached by daily ferry service from the Northport Pier, 2 miles east of Gills Rock on SR 42; phone (800) 223-2094. For narrated sightseeing tram tours of the island, board at the Washington Island dock. Passenger excursion service to Rock Island State Park also is offered late May to mid-October.
