In late June the community celebrates its heritage with 3 days of food, music and other entertainment during the Heidi Festival and Taste of New Glarus. The Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day weekend, the highlight of the Wilhelm Tell Festival is the outdoor performance of the Wilhelm Tell drama; other events include a yodel contest and an art fair.
New Glarus is a popular departure point for the Sugar River State Trail, a 24-mile hiking, bicycling and snowmobiling route leading to Brodhead.
