Lavender, which blooms July through August, is an important local crop. Some 40 lavender farms are in the vicinity, and many are open to the public. The summer air is perfumed with its aromatic scent—a perfect time of year for the Sequim Lavender Festival. In addition to free, self-guiding tours of eight area lavender farms, there's a street fair that sets up along Fir Street downtown, with more than 150 vendors from across the Pacific Northwest offering lavender-scented products and lavender art, plus live music on an outdoor stage and a food court where you can purchase a glass of lavender wine. This 3-day event is held the third weekend in July.
