Even better known is author L. Frank Baum, a New Yorker who relocated to Aberdeen in 1888. Baum ran the town's weekly newspaper, The Aberdeen Saturday Pioneer, for four years before moving on to Chicago and finding fame as a writer of children's books with “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,” first in a series of magical adventures about an emerald city and other faraway places.
