DESTINATION

Indiana

Northern Indiana County is Amish country. Horse-drawn buggies are common sights, as are Christmas trees—more than one million trees per year are marketed by local growers in the area.

Historic buildings can be seen on the campus of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. John Sutton Hall, built in 1875, houses University Museum's changing art exhibits and displays; phone (724) 357-2397.

Year-round recreational opportunities include hunting, fishing and boating. For information about game areas phone the Pennsylvania Game Commission Southwest Regional office at (724) 238-9523. For fishing information and boating regulations phone the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission regional office at (814) 443-9841. Yellow Creek State Park is about 12 miles east of town. The Ghost Town, Hoodlebug and West Penn trails offer nearly 65 miles of rails-to-trails that give hikers and bikers the opportunity to pass through scenic areas, historic sites and other natural attractions. Maps are available at the Indiana County Tourist Bureau and at the Indiana County Parks & Trails office, 1128 Blue Spruce Rd. in Blue Spruce Park; phone (724) 463-7505 for the tourist bureau or (724) 463-8636 for the parks and trails office.
