The Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area operates the Carrie Blast Furnace Tour, a 2-hour guided walking tour through the former U.S. Steel Homestead Works in Braddock. Visitors learn about the iron-making process and the construction of the 92-foot tall furnaces that at one time produced 1,000 tons of iron a day. Tours are offered May-Oct.; phone (412) 464-4020 for more information.
