The city is best known as the principal Navajo trading center—their vast reservation extends north and west into Arizona—as well as for the residents of nearby Zuni Pueblo. Gallup has more than 100 trading posts, shops and galleries; at many trading posts handmade articles ranging from rugs and baskets to turquoise jewelry are sold.
