Numerous sites are highlighted in the "Tour, Taste, Play, Stay" brochure and map, available at local shops and restaurants. The tour covers the downtown business district; the Dougherty, Jewell and Lightburne historic residential districts; William Jewell College; the Clay County Historical Museum; and sites related to African American history, early resident Alexander Doniphan and outlaw Jesse James. A self-guiding tour can be accessed via the Historic Downtown Liberty, Inc. mobile app.

Downtown streets are lined with book, clothing, home décor and jewelry stores. The Historic Downtown Liberty Farmers Market is held at Liberty Square—bordered by Kansas Avenue and Franklin, Main and Water streets—Sat. 7-noon from May through September; 8-noon in October.
