Lake Superior and the many inland lakes and streams harbor a variety of fish. Fishing is excellent in spring and fall; a Michigan license is required. Summer months offer sightseeing, camping, boating, swimming, hiking, picnicking, backpacking and a scenic boat ride along the Pictured Rocks.
Twenty-one miles of cross-country ski trails, abundant off-trail skiing and a yearly snowfall averaging 150 inches accommodate winter sports enthusiasts. Snowshoeing and ice fishing are popular activities.
Park rangers conduct campfire programs and guided walks in summer. Drive-in camping areas are at Hurricane River, Little Beaver Lake and Twelvemile Beach; roads to these areas are closed by snow from November through April. Backcountry, hike-in permits are required. Reservations are accepted 2 weeks in advance; the fee is $15. Upon arrival, the additional user fee is $5 per person, per night.
