Danville

Isaac Shelby, both the first and fifth governor of Kentucky, is buried in the Isaac Shelby Cemetery State Historic Site 5 miles south of Danville off US 127. Shelby was the chairman of the first Kentucky Constitutional Convention and served in both the American Revolution and the War of 1812.

Many of the state's landmark structures were built in Danville, including Kentucky's first college, school for the deaf, law school, log courthouse and brick courthouse as well as the first post office west of the Allegheny Mountains.
