The birthplace of movie idol James Dean is at Fourth and McClure sts. Honoring Marion-born Jim Davis, creator of the Garfield comic strip, statues of the lasagna-loving fat cat can be found along the Garfield Trail at E. First and S. Adams streets, near the Mississinewa Riverwalk; at 441 N. Wabash Ave., at Marion General Hospital; and at 2500 E. CR 550N, at Arbor Trace Golf Club.

Exhibits dealing with local history can be found at the Marion Public Library Museum, 600 S. Washington St. The Miami Indian Historical Site, on CRs 600N and 380W, marks the site of the Battle of Mississinewa, the first victory of the U.S. Army in the War of 1812. Hiking trails traverse the former Miami reservation and village.

The Mississinewa Riverwalk is a walking and jogging path that follows the Mississinewa River to Matter Park. The Cardinal Greenway, a paved 7.5-mile biking path, connects Marion with Jonesboro and Sweetser.
