DESTINATION

Bloomington

The town rests on a bed of Indiana limestone, and many of its homes and public buildings are constructed of the local stone—some 30 quarries operate in the area. The Vinegar Hill historic district, south of the campus along E. Third Street, is noted for its limestone houses built 1900-1940 by local quarry owners and immigrant carvers.
