Mullan

Mullan nestles below Lookout Pass in the Bitterroot Mountains, a popular year-round recreation area for skiing, snowboarding, hiking and mountain biking. The paved Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes follows a former Union Pacific railway path 72 miles west from Mullan to Plummer; phone (208) 682-3814 for additional information. With 10 tunnels and seven trestles, the gravel, 15-mile Route of the Hiawatha runs south of Lookout Pass along another repurposed railroad right-of-way. Shuttles are available at trailheads from late May to late September; phone (208) 744-1301 or (208) 245-2531.
