The foundations of the Turnbull Ruins/Old Fort, built of coquina, are on N. Riverside Drive between Washington and Julia streets. These ruins, made of walls 3 feet thick, represent a local mystery—it has never been established if the foundation is the unfinished remains of a pre-colonial fort or the incomplete beginnings of a mansion for the Turnbull family. The remains of a large plantation's sugar mill can be seen at Sugar Mill Ruins, 600 Old Mission Rd. Built in the early 1800s, the mill was destroyed during the Second Seminole War.
