One of the city's oldest unaltered wooden structures, built in 1912 with timber found on the beach, now houses the Boca Raton Children's Museum, 498 Crawford Blvd. The museum features interactive exhibits highlighting history, science and the arts and humanities. The Gulf Stream comes closest to the Florida shore at Boca Raton, making the climate ideal for sports and recreation.

The Shops at Boca Center, at Military Trail and Town Center Road, offers boutiques, art galleries and restaurants. Mizner Park, on Federal Highway between Palmetto Park and Glades roads, is an outdoor mall with a cultural arts center, upscale boutiques, eateries and a movie theater. Royal Palm Place, US 1 and Mizner Boulevard, features boutiques and specialty shops in a Mediterranean setting. Town Center at Boca Raton, half a mile west of I-95 on Glades Road, contains 220 stores including Bloomingdale's, Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue and Sears.
