DESTINATION

Geyserville

“Downtown,” along Geyserville Avenue, the main thoroughfare, earns such overused adjectives as quaint and rustic due to a scattering of eclectic shops and eateries as well as Locals (21023 Geyserville Ave.), a popular tasting room featuring the award-winning products of 10 regional wineries. A handful of cozy Victorian-style B&Bs make convenient home bases for exploring some of the approximately 50 wineries in the nearby Alexander and Dry Creek valleys.

Outdoor enthusiasts head to nearby Lake Sonoma for kayaking, fishing and canoeing. Bike tours travel the Alexander Valley’s rolling hills, passing bucolic pasturelands laced with grapevines. And although visitors usually venture to “big city” neighbor Healdsburg for provisions, it’s always fun to stop by the Jimtown Store (6706 SR 128). This quintessential country store, decorated with vintage Americana, offers a heaping helping of nostalgia along with plenty of fixings for a gourmet picnic lunch.
