On a bluff above Mobile Bay, Fairhope's 2 miles of beach are the setting for local yachting competitions in the summer. Flounder, crab and shrimp can be caught easily during Jubilee, Mobile Bay's natural late-summer phenomenon in which bottom-dwelling marine life, delirious because of a sudden lack of oxygen in the water, head toward the shore. When alarms sound, every available bucket, cooking pot and washbasin is enlisted to harvest this seafood bonanza.
At the marina, the Fairhope Pier extends a quarter of a mile into the bay, providing good fishing and panoramic views of the surrounding area.
