Foss Waterway Seaport
AAA Editor Notes
Foss Waterway Seaport is at 705 Dock St. Housed in the historic Balfour Building—the last remnant of a mile-long, timber frame wheat warehouse built in 1900—this museum of regional maritime history and commerce has rotating exhibits, vintage artifacts and a collection of classic recreational watercraft. Historic photographs, vessel name boards and model ships augment the displays. A permanent exhibit explores the history of the Puyallup Tribe and their connection to the Salish Sea and Puyallup River.
You can watch craftsmen at work in the Heritage Boat Shop and participate in hands-on demonstrations. Discovery Wharf engages kids with a variety of activities. Or simply relax on one of the benches along the outdoor esplanade overlooking Foss Waterway and the city's industrial working waterfront; in clear weather Mount Rainier is a commanding backdrop.
