First known as Yolo City, Woodland was a gold rush town established in 1861. Downtown at Main and Second streets is the Woodland Opera House . The original building, built in 1885, burned down in 1892 when a major fire destroyed much of the downtown area. The opera house was rebuilt and was the site of theatrical productions until 1913, after which the building remained boarded up for almost 60 years. Saved from the wrecking ball by the county historical society, the restored brick opera house presents live entertainment throughout the year; phone (530) 666-9617 for event information. Learn More...
