NATIONAL PARKColumbia River Gorge National Scenic Area Following the Columbia River in both Oregon and Washington, the scenic area consists of 292,500 acres of sheer cliffs, mountainous forestland, hilly deciduous woods and grassy plains. The Oregon section extends from the Sandy River near Troutdale about 80 miles east to the Deschutes River. Rain forests and waterfalls, characteristic of the area's western end, give way east of the mountains to oak woods and grasslands.Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area

Of interest are the loophole walls, underground magazines, artillery stores, command posts, barracks and gun and searchlight emplacements. NATIONAL PARKHanford Reach National Monument Established by presidential proclamation in June 2000, Hanford Reach National Monument embraces 195,000 acres of federal lands on two sides of the Hanford Reservation in south-central Washington. The monument protects the Hanford Reach, the last free-flowing stretch of the Columbia River in the United States above Bonneville Dam. With summer temperatures routinely reaching 100 degrees Fahrenheit and annual rainfall less than 7 inches, this is the hottest and driest part of the state.
