SCENIC BYWAY

Sir Francis Drake Scenic Boulevard

19.8 miles: 0 hours, 41 minutes

Just an hour’s drive and 22 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge, Point Reyes National Seashore is the perfect retreat for those who want to escape San Francisco’s hectic pace for a day. This coastal sanctuary offers dramatic rocky headlands, lovely beaches and scenic hikes galore. Sir Francis Drake Boulevard provides access to several popular destinations.

Sir Francis Drake Boulevard enters Point Reyes National Seashore north of Olema. Point Reyes Beach North is a wide, flat stretch of sand backed by rolling coastal dunes carpeted with low-growing vegetation—most strikingly the ice plant, a non-native species with leaves that look like plump green spears. The byway ends at Point Reyes Lighthouse, perched on a clifftop overlooking the Pacific.
