Nisga'a Scenic Highway

64.6 miles: 1 hours, 40 minutes

Named for the Nisga’a people indigenous to this secluded area of British Columbia, the Nisga’a Scenic Highway (PR 113) runs north through the breathtaking Kitsumkalum Valley, where emerald green lakes and ponds reflect the snowcapped peaks towering over them. The evergreen-lined route ends in Nisga’a Memorial Lava Bed Provincial Park, which preserves the lava fields deposited by a volcanic eruption 300 years ago.

Western hemlocks, lodgepole pines and Douglas firs crowd the Nisga’a Scenic Highway (PR 113) as it follows the Kitsumkalum River north toward the Nass Valley, home of the Nisga’a nation and the site of lava beds deposited by a volcano. Glaciers sparkle on the shoulders of mountains in the distance, and trails just off the highway lead to waterfalls and secluded ponds encircled by dark woods.
