New Jersey’s Historic Delaware River drive trip comprises the state- and nationally designated Delaware River Scenic Byway (SR 29). From SR 29 you’ll see the gold dome of the 1792 New Jersey State House, the architectural highlight of the capitol complex. The scenery goes from Trenton cityscape to residential to heavy forestation. The Delaware River peeks in and out of view, and the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park Trail along the canal towpath runs parallel to the road for much of the way.

2

Lambertville to Frenchtown

You have to look a little bit harder for the Delaware River on this leg, but it’s still there, as is the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park Trail. The small towns of Lambertville, Stockton and Frenchtown break up the otherwise mostly forested stretch.
